Prior to enrolling in the Sight Center’s National Diabetes Prevention Program, I was experiencing double vision because of my high blood sugars. I needed special glasses with prisms to correct my failing eyesight. Six months into the program, I had lost 28 pounds and regulated my blood sugars so much that I could return to wearing regular eyeglasses.

Before losing my eyesight to high blood pressure in 1998, I never paid attention to my health or did any preventive health care or screenings. When I found out I had Prediabetes in 2022, I didn’t let it take anything else from me. Because of the Sight Center’s DPP and Adult Program, I have reversed my Prediabetes and finally completed mobility training. I won’t let anything stop me.

Venango County Association for the Blind
Venango County Association for the Blind has been partnering with the Sight Center of NW PA to bring the DPP program into Venango County for two years with a third group that has just started. During that time, we have seen folks taking the class, learning new things about nutrition, figuring out what works for them in their journey and it has been a rewarding experience. We have had clients and community members alike take the class and the folks that stay with it for the year, they come out the other side a changed person. The coaches are wonderful and meet people where they are. Coaches look for ways to help alter even the most stubborn habits. I can’t imagine not having this program available at our facility at this point. It has been a phenomenal experience and one I would like to continue offering to our community and clients long into the future.
